REAL ID
A law requiring driver's licenses and IDs to meet certain security standards for domestic air travel and federal facility access.
Distracted Driving
Driving behavior that is impaired due to distractions such as cell phones, eating, or adjusting the radio.
Emergency Kit
A collection of essential items (like a first aid kit and flashlight) to have in your vehicle for emergencies.
Impaired Driving
Operating a vehicle while affected by alcohol, drugs, or other substances that impair judgment.
Hazard Perception
The ability to identify and respond to potential risks on the road before they become problems.
Antilock Braking System (ABS)
A safety feature in vehicles that prevents the wheels from locking up during hard braking.
Zipper Merging

Visual Search
Actively checking surroundings to gather information for safe decision-making while driving.
Situation Awareness
The ability to be aware of your surroundings and predict potential hazards while driving.
Pedestrian Safety Zone
Areas designated to provide safe crossing spaces for pedestrians, where vehicles must yield.
Understeer
When a vehicle doesn’t turn as much as intended due to loss of traction in the front tires.
Hydroplaning
A dangerous condition where water builds up between the tires and the road surface, causing loss of control.
Open Container Law
Prohibits the presence of open alcohol containers in a vehicle to prevent drinking and driving.
