Non-state actors
Entities that influence foreign policy but are not formal governmental bodies, such as NGOs and IGOs.
IGOs
Intergovernmental organizations that support international cooperation, e.g., World Trade Organization.
NGOs
Non-governmental organizations that operate independently and can influence policy, e.g., Amnesty International.
Directly
A method by which non-state actors influence foreign policy through formal mechanisms such as policy decision-making.
Indirectly
A method by which non-state actors influence foreign policy through informal means such as lobbying and media.
Corruption
Some forms of unethical influence that non-state actors may exert on foreign policy.
Public opinion
The collective attitudes and beliefs of the public that may influence policy decisions.
Policy recommendations
Advice provided to decision-makers, often based on scientific or expert testimony.
