Community
Made up of all the populations in an area.
Density
The number of individuals in a population that occupies an area of a specific size.
Biosphere
Includes all places where organisms live on Earth.
Limiting Factor
Anything that restricts the number of individuals in a population.
Producers
Organisms that use any outside energy source, such as the Sun, to produce energy-rich molecules.
Ecology
The study of interactions that occur among organisms and their environment.
Consumers
Organisms that cannot make their own energy-rich molecules.
Population
All the organisms in an ecosystem that belong to the same species.
Carrying Capacity
The largest number of individuals of one species that an ecosystem can support over time.
Ecosystem
All the organisms living in an area and the nonliving features of their environment.
Habitat
The place in which an organism lives.
Symbiosis
Refers to any close relationship between species.
Commensalism
A symbiotic relationship when one organism benefits and the other organism is not affected.
Parasitism
A symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits but the other is harmed.
Mutualism
A symbiotic relationship in which both organisms benefit.
