Potassium (K)
Violent explosion; flame may be seen; extremely dangerous.
Sodium (Na)
Violent explosion; very dangerous.
Calcium (Ca)
Rapid bubbling (effervescence); heat evolved; metal disappears quickly.
Magnesium (Mg)
Steady effervescence; metal disappears; test tube becomes hot.
Aluminium (Al)
Reaction starts slowly due to oxide layer then becomes vigorous with bubbles.
Zinc (Zn)
Steady stream of bubbles; slower than magnesium.
Iron (Fe)
Slow formation of bubbles; requires some time to see reaction.
Lead (Pb)
A few bubbles may form initially then stops (due to formation of insoluble layer).
Copper (Cu)
No bubbles seen; no change in metal.
Silver (Ag)
No observable change.
Gold (Au)
No observable change.
Platinum (Pt)
No observable change.
