who are we slide
I’m Nathan and I am a researcher for the reasons that push teens to become gang involved.

10th grade slide
This was the year we started our gang violence project.
Our instructions for the signature project this year was more research-oriented, so our project was more informational.
In this iteration, we mostly talked about why teens join gangs and how we can prevent it.

why we chose this topic
We chose gang violence as our topic as we see that it is one of the main problems locally in our community.
This especially true in lower-income neighborhoods such as Panorama which I live close to.
It is important to us as we want to raise awareness about gang violence and its dangerous consequences it has.
This way, we can help our peers find a better path for their future and help create safer neighborhoods.

community partner
So this is our community partner named Victor Paz, he is my pastor and one of the reasons why I did this project as he would always talk about other teens involved in gangs and helped me gain compassion for them.
He works in a gang interventionist company called ACE or alliance for community empowerment and he works with people who have been involved in gangs, and helps them with reintegration, legal matters, and finding them safe schools to attend.
Overall he helps gang members become more independent and make better choices.

data collection
These are our data from one of our surveys within the school. The bar graph on the top left shows that most students feel secure from gangs in this school, but around a quarter of them do not feel very protected.
The mode of the graph on the top right shows that most students know only a little bit about gangs violence.
And the pie chart below shows that one-fifths of the people have experienced two incidents of gang violence in their community the past year, and most have experienced at least one instance.
