Precipitation Reaction
What is precipitation reaction?
• usually also double displacement reactions
precipitation reaction occurs when teo soluble reactants combine to form an insoluble product
Insoluble - a solid does NOT dissolve
Reactions of Acids (neutralisation reaction)
acids are a certain group of chemicals which react with particular elements/ compounds in certain ways
Acid + Bases neutralization reaction) :
Acid + Base → salt + water
e.g. hydrochloric acid + sodium hydroxide → sodium chloride + water
HC + NaOH → NaCI + H20
Acid + Metals
Acid + Metal → salt + Hydrogen gas
e.g. zinc + hydrochloric acid → zinc chloride + hydrogen gas
Zn+ HC → ZnCl2+H2
Acids + Carbonates
Acid + Carbonate → salt + carbon dioxide + water
+ calcium carbonate + hydrochloric aid → calcium chloride + carbon dioxide
Ca CO3 + HC| → CaCl+ CO2 + H=0
Acids + Metal Oxides
Acid + Metal oxide → metal salt + water
e.g. nitric acid + magnesium oxide → magnesium nitrate + water
2HNO= + MgO → Mg Mg (NO3)2 + H20
