Dump Angle
The angle of the seat in a wheelchair that increases pelvic stability by preventing the user from sliding forward.
Axle
A rod that connects the two wheels of a wheelchair, which can shift the center of gravity and affect stability.
Brakes Adjustment
Loosening the brakes to slide them forward until they hit the tire, then tightening the bolt.
Leg Rest Length Adjustment
Adjustable by either a screw that can be removed or a push-in button for sliding up and down.
How would you adjust the dump of this wheelchair and what does it do?
Dump can be adjusted at the casters (little) or the wheel. Dump angle is the angle of the seat. This angle increases pelvic stability by preventing the user from sliding forward in the chair. Higher dump = maximal stability in the chair.
How would you adjust the axle of this wheelchair and what does it do?
The axle is a rod that connects the two wheels together (most of the time, sometimes each wheel has its own axle). The axle shifts the center of gravity of the chair and can be adjusted forward or backwards to do this. Forward position makes it easier to pop wheelies to clear obstacles, but decreases rearward stability. Backward position increases the wheelbase, making the chair more stable but heavier to propel.
How would you adjust the brakes of the wheelchair?
This should be able to loosen the brakes and slide them forward in their locked position, until they hit the tire. Tighten the bolt when done.
How would you adjust the leg rest length?
This should be either a screw that can come out or a push in button that will slide up and down.
