Client Goals

Target Audience
The intended group of people for whom the publication is being created, defined by demographics, interests, and needs.
Demographics
Statistical data about the target audience, such as age, gender, location, education, and occupation.
Accessibility
Designing publications so they are usable by people with disabilities, following standards like WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).
User Experience (UX)
The overall feel and usability of a design from the end-user's perspective.
Relevance
The suitability of content and design choices for the project's goals and audience.
Sketches
Quick drawings that represent initial design concepts and layouts.
Specifications
Precise descriptions of requirements, measurements, and standards for a publication.
Wireframes
Simplified page layouts showing the structure and placement of elements, without detailed design or content.
Prototypes
Interactive, often clickable, early versions of a publication for testing user flow and design.
Iterations
Successive updates and refinements to a design based on feedback and evaluation.
Change Orders
Official requests for modifications to the original project plan or design.
Drafts

Feedback Loop

Creative Brief
A document outlining the project scope, objectives, audience, and deliverables.
Project Scope
The defined parameters, tasks, and goals of a project.
Scope Creep
The uncontrolled expansion of project scope without corresponding adjustments in resources or timeline.

Copyright
Legal right that grants the creator of original work exclusive rights to its use and distribution.
Creative Commons

Public Domain

Intellectual Property
Creations of the mind such as works of art, designs, inventions, and symbols.
Derivative Work
A new work based on or incorporating elements of existing copyrighted material.
Commercial Use

Attribution

Work for Hire
Creative work made in the course of employment, with copyright belonging to the employer.
Fair Use

Stock Images and Vector Graphics
Licensed images or graphics purchased for use in publications; usage is governed by terms of the license.
Model Release
A legal form signed by a person featured in a photo granting permission for its use.
Location Release
Permission to use images of certain properties or locations in a publication.
Image Resolution
The amount of detail an image holds, usually measured in pixels per inch (PPI).
Image Size
The dimensions of an image, expressed in units such as inches, pixels, or centimeters.
File Types
Different file formats used, such as .jpeg, .png, .indd, etc.
Linking and Embedding
Two ways InDesign manages asset files: linking references the original file, embedding includes the asset in the InDesign file.
Pixel
The smallest unit of a digital image, forming the building blocks of raster graphics.
Raster
Images made up of a grid of pixels.
Bitmap
A digital image composed of a matrix of dots representing a graphic.
Vector
Graphics created using mathematical paths and shapes, scalable without loss of quality.
Path
A sequence of points and line segments forming shapes or outlines in vector graphics.
Object
Any selectable element in InDesign, like a frame, image, or text box.
Type

Units of Measurement
Includes picas, inches, pixels, centimeters, etc.
Color Management

Gamut

CMYK

RGB
