For a Korean person, they know the American national anthem well (form allows you to describe one stand-out person, place, or thing, comparing them to the rest of the same persons, places, or things. in this case, one stand out korean person, in comparison to the rest of korean people.)

초등학생치고는 그 학생이 아주 성숙해요

For an elementary school student that student is very mature

여태껏 일한 시간치고는 결과가 만족스러워요

Considering how long I’ve worked until now, the result is pretty satisfying

위험 물질을 수송하는 차량치고는 외관이 깔끔했어요

For a vehicle transporting hazardous materials, its exterior was surprisingly clean

그 배우가 나온 드라마치고는 시청률이 낮았어요

For a drama starring that actor, the ratings were low

열심히 공부를 해 봤자 소용없어요

Even if you study hard, there is no point. (even if blank, it is pointless. form can indicate that there is no point in doing the action aforementioned)

아무리 지금 고쳐 봤자 새로운 것을 이미 샀어요

Even if you fix it now, it is pointless as we’ve already bought a new one

이리 와서 도와줘 봤자 이미 다 끝났어요

Even if you come here and help, it’s already finished

고소공포증이 있는 사람은 아무리 연습해 봤자 높은 곳에서는 긴장할 수밖에 없어요

Even if someone with a fear of heights practices a lot, they can’t help but get nervous in high places

단원을 미리 공부해 봤자 시험 범위가 바뀌면 소용없어요

Even if I study the unit in advance, it’s useless if the test scope changes

고압 전류가 흐르오니 절대 손대지 마십시오

High-voltage current present, do not touch under any circumstances (form done in very specific situations – especially in places that want to sound formal, polite, and serious. it can be used to give a suggestion; provide background information or to give an excuse. form is archaic and not colloquial)

그 남자는 돈에 혈안이 되어 밤낮없이 일했구요, 결국에는 건강이 크게 나빠졌어요

That man was obsessed with money and worked day and night, and in the end, his health greatly deteriorated (form adds a friendly, sympathetic tone. You can use it when gently adding more detail, rather than listing facts. the speaker is easing into the second detail with a conversational flow)

우리는 산길을 쭉 올라갔구요, 정상에서 일출을 봤어요

We climbed the mountain path straight up, and watched the sunrise at the peak

그 사람은 형편도 안 좋은데 가족까지 떠났대요. 게다가 주변 사람들한테 신망도 잃었구요

His circumstances are already bad, and on top of that, he’s lost the trust of those around him, too. (form can imply that the statement is part of a continuing context. the speaker is following-up to a previous statement and building using something else)

처음에는 말이 그럴듯하길래 믿었죠. 나중에 알고 보니 완전히 모순되었구요.

At first his words seemed plausible, so I believed him. Later I found out they completely contradicted each other too.

아이들이 분명히 거기서 놀고 있었어요. 그런데 갑자기 무시무시한 소리가 들렸구요…

The kids were definitely playing there. Then suddenly we heard a terrifying sound…

처음에는 긴장하기 마련이다

It’s natural to be nervous at first. (form used when some situation is naturally, inevitably going to occur. Things that are naturally expected to happen.)

사람들은 언젠가 죽기 마련이에요

Its natural that people pass away someday.

새 차라도 시간이 지나면 고장이 나기 마련이다.

Even a new car is bound to break down eventually.

전쟁이 나면 물가가 오르기 마련이다.

When a war breaks out, prices tend to rise.

힘든 일일수록 아무도 자청하지 않기 마련이에요

The more difficult the task, the less likely anyone is to volunteer for it
