Surveys
A method of data collection
provide a description of trends, properties or characteristics of a population by studying a sample of that population.
uses questionnaires or structured interviews for data
collection, with the goal of generalizing from the sample
Social Surveys
collect social variables that cause or are results of human
behavior.
Quantitative survey
Questions produce numeric and measurable responses
• find out how data are distributed & how variables are related
Qualitative survey
usually, open-ended qstns produce non-numeric data
• non-numeric data transformed to numeric data by coding to perform
Mixed survey
• both quantitative (numeric) & qualitative (non-numeric) data
Survey Objectives
general statement/s of what the aims of the survey are and what it
is trying to find out.
Develop Research questions
-To arrive at precise answers, RQs must be
clear and well-stated.
Unit of Analysis
determine which individuals or groups can best answer survey questions
and provide data to best satisfy Survey Objectives.
Conceptual Framework
map of how Survey Objectives will be achieved
• maps out how the Researcher thinks or suspects (hypothesis) the variables
affect each other.
