Hazards to the eyes

Dust, wood chips and small/large particles. Make sure to wear googles!!

Hazards to the hands

* **Sharp chips, rotating moving parts, cutters  cut through work pieces and hands**


* **Do not wear gloves when operating  machinery**
* **Keep fingers at a safe distance**
* **Turn off machine before you make any  adjustments**
* Do not wipe away chips or dust with hands,  use a brush

Hazards from fire

* **Keep flammable materials away from  sources of heat**
* **Know where the fire extinguishers are located in the Engineering lab!**

All Machines

* **Get permission from teacher**


* **Do not wear jewelry or ties**
* **No long hair (use hair ties to tie back hair)**
* **Roll up long sleeves**
* **No loose clothing**

Lab conditions

* **keep the lab clean and neat.**


* **If you notice a machine not working properly, let the  instructor know about it. Do not try to fix it yourself  or leave it broken without telling the instructor.**
* **If you see someone using a machine incorrectly, let  them know and notify an instructor.**

Knife Rules!!

* **Cut on cutting mat**


* **Never use a dull or broken blade - we can replace it for you, bring to an instructor**
* **Cut away from body and from others in your group**
* **Cut multiple times, not in one swipe**
* **Keep fingers above blade**
* **The cover must be on before you walk with the x-acto knife in hand**
* **Wear a protective glove on the hand not holding the knife**

Chemicals

* **All lacquer thinner, paint thinner, enamel paint, oil based paint should be applied in a well ventilated room or outside**
* **Paint and lacquer is flammable and should be stored in a fire safety cabinent**
* **Rags used to appy oil based stain on wood can be flammable until completely dry.  They should NOT be put in the trash.  They need to be put in a separate container to dry - outside if possible**

Make sure to remember

* **CLOSED TOE SHOES ON PROJECT DAYS - NO CROCS..NO SANDALS…NO SLIPPERS**
* **NO PUSHING/SHOVING/HORSEPLAY IN THE LAB**
* **NO THROWING SUPPLIES**
* **NO WASTING SUPPLIES - LIKE HOT GLUE ETC…**
* **SUPPLIES ARE TOOLS - NOT TOYS!**
