Do we ream in “odds” or “evens” for Austral, and why?
Odds.
Austral is a press fit design. By under-reaming by 1mm, this creates press fit between the acetabulum and the cup. It aims to achieve strong primary stability and bony on-growth.
Eg. Reaming to size 53 = size 54 cup.

These factors may cause a fracture.
What can be used if a stem needs to be removed from the canal?
A stem extractor. This is usually a “have available/HA” item/tray.
