Combination reaction
Reactions in which two or more reactants combine to form one product, represented by the general equation A+B→AB.
Decomposition Reaction
Reactions in which one compound decomposes into two or more compounds or elements, represented by the general equation AB→A+B.
Relationship between Combination and Decomposition Reactions
A decomposition reaction is considered the exact opposite of a combination reaction.
Decomposition of Calcium carbonate
A reaction where calcium carbonate decomposes into calcium oxide and calcium dioxide.
Thermal decomposition
The decomposition of a substance that occurs specifically upon heating.
Lead Nitrate Thermal Decomposition Equation
The decomposition of lead nitrate represented in the notes as 2Pb(NO3)2(s)→2PbO(s)+4NO2(g)+O2(g).
Photolysis (Photo Decomposition)
Reactions in which a compound decomposes because of exposure to sunlight.
Photolysis of Silver chloride
A specific reaction where silver chloride is put in sunlight and decomposes into silver metal and chlorine gas.
