Salvation History

The pattern of events in human history where God revealed his saving plan for us.

A solemn agreement between God and humans in which commitments are made and relationships are created

The Paschal Mystery

The work of salvation accomplished by Jesus mainly through his suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension

Suffering servant

Isaiah wrote about the suffering servant, how he bore the punishment that makes us whole, by his wounds we are healed.

New Paschal Lamb

Jesus, like the Paschal lamb, died to liberate everyone from sin. Both died on the same day.

Ransom for many

This term was used to describe Jesus because they wanted to explain the saving nature of Jesus to the Romans, how he was the price to release a slave from slavery (release us from sin)

the act of saving or being saved from sin or evil

Jesus, as the fulfillment of the Old Covenants, brought the ultimate blessing and salvation though his life, death resurrection, and ascension, establishing the New covenant

to love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself

Agape

Love that is unconditional in its purity and charity. This is the highest form of love and is the love Jesus called to live.

Philia

warm, tender affection between friends “brotherly love”

eros

romantic or sexual love based on mutual attraction rooted in passion and pleasure

storge

affectionate love, love of family

the eucharist

another name for the holy communion, bread and wine transformed into the literal body and blood of Christ

The new law of Christ

Respect the life and dignity of every person, share our material goods to help other people in need, and build just societies that protect the essential rights of all people.

the act of being saved.

God’s grace

undeserved mercy and forgiveness that we receive from God that allows us to be saved

Making amends for things we have done wrong

carry your cross and die to yourself

doing ordinary things with great love can have a massive impact on the world around you

faith without works is dead

you can’t just have faith in God to be saved, we need to also live a moral life in accordance to his will

Good works don’t bring salvation, but the joy of salvation reveals itself in good works through God’s grace

By the grace of God, we achieve the salvation God desires for us through perseverance in both faith and works

You can’t have an Easter sunday without a Good friday

you can’t have joys and successes without struggles and sufferings

They were perfect, they were sacrificed. Their blood freed the people from captivity (lamb - physical captivity, Jesus - spiritual)

what is the resurrection proof of and the cornerstone of our faith?

that everything Jesus said was true, heaven is real, it’s all true. It validates his divinity, confirms the forgiveness of sin, and guarantees eternal life.

only through suffering and dying could Jesus rise and defeat sin and death

how can music help us to understand mysteries of our faith, like the paschal mystery?

Music helps us understand the paschal mystery by using rhythm, emotion, and beauty to show how death leads to new life, like Christ’s dying and rising

how do we participate in the paschal mystery when we participate in the eucharist?

we recieve the body and blood of Christ, then we are spiritually united to his sacrifice, death and resurrection, receiving grace and being transformed into his body, the church.

Suffering isn’t a sign of weakness but strength

It’s going through suffering that makes us stronger afterward, weak people give up.

why did Jesus have to suffer and die? why suffering?

SO that we may be forgiven of our sins and live eternally with him in heaven. It was God’s plan to overcome sin & death

Common reasons we suffer, how did Jesus suffer like us?

Not learning what the Bible teaches us, us living in a world full of sin, to teach us compassion and empathy, like “chipping” of our selfish desires. Jesus tempted, frustrated, weary, disappointed, ridiculed, sorrowful, rejected, lonely, he was poor.

Bridgemaster and his son

because without the bridgemaster sacrificing his son (good friday), the people would’ve died and there wouldn’t be a good friday or a easter sunday.

you are not alone in your suffering

we are never alone in our suffering, since Jesus brings us solace and comfort, he also suffered too.
