Absolute
Exactly where something is.
Relative
Describing a location from place to place, such as 'the store is around the corner.'
Population Pyramid (Left Side)
The side of the population pyramid that represents the MALE group of people.
Population Pyramid (Right Side)
The side of the population pyramid that represents the FEMALE group of people.
Population Pyramid Bars
The rectangles stacked on top of each other that represent the percentage of the population in a specific age range.
Burkina Faso High Birth Rate Indicator
A population pyramid with a widest base, meaning there is a lot of people in the population of that age range.
Increases Population
Factors such as Industrialization, Government policies, and Evolution.
Decreases Population
Factors such as Pollution, Famine, War, and Disease.
Crude Birth Rate (CBR)
The total number of births per 1000 people.
Crude Death Rate (CDR)
The total number of deaths per 1000 people.
Natural Increase Rate (NIR)
The percentage of growth of a population in a year based on CBR and CDR.
DTM Stage 1 (High stationary)
A stage of the Demographic Transition Model where death and birth rates are both high.
DTM Stage 2
Early expanding.
DTM Stage 3
Late expanding.
DTM Stage 4
Low stationary.
DTM Stage 5
Declining.
Cash Crop
A crop produced to be sold.
Subsistence Farming
A type of farming in which nearly all the crops or livestock are used to maintain the farmer and their family, with little less to sale.
Pastoral Nomadism
Taking care of a herd of animals and moving with them as they migrate to take advantage of seasonal changes and favorable climate.
Shifting Cultivation
A type of farming where land is cleared by cutting down vegetation and burning the debris, used for a short period, and then the farmer moves to a new area.
