Erythropoietin
Growth factor produced by the kidneys that stimulates red blood cell production.
Anemia
A clinical indicator characterized by a reduction in the number of red blood cells, amount of hemoglobin, or hematocrit.
Iron Deficiency Anemia
The most common type of anemia worldwide caused by a lack of iron necessary for hemoglobin production.
Aplastic Anemia
A deficiency of circulating red blood cells due to the failure of the bone marrow to produce these cells.
Glossitis
A condition characterized by a smooth, beefy-red tongue, often associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Pretransfusion Assessment
Procedures to confirm donor and recipient compatibility, including checking lab values, vital signs, and donor blood inspection.
Hemolytic Reaction
A serious immune response to a blood transfusion, often occurring within the first 50 ml of the blood infusion.
