Fentanyl brand:
Duragesic
Fentanyl/Duragesic 3 ADR:
Slowed breathing & sedation, Dry mouth, & itchiness at the application site
Fentanyl/Duragesic Counseling:
1.) Apply patch to the upper torso, making sure the skin is clean with no oils or lotions and any hair is clipped, not shaved.
2.) Press the patch firmly with your palm for at least 10 seconds (to ensure it is well secured.)
3.) The patch may be worn continuously for 72 hours. Once done, fold the patch onto itself and flush down the toilet.
Extra: Do not use patches that are cut or punctured.
Niacin
Niaspan
Niacin/Niaspan 3 ADR
Flushing, itching, & rash.
Niacin/Niaspan 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Do not take on an empty stomach, best to take at bedtime with a low-fat snack.
2.) Although the flushing side effect usually subsides after a few weeks of therapy, if you’d like to minimize the flushing you may take aspirin or NSAIDS (such as ibuprofen) shortly before.
3.) It’s also important that while taking this medication you are following your prescribed diet.
Paroxetine
Paxil
Paroxetine/Paxil 3 ADR:
Nausea, drowsiness, & possibly headache
Paroxetine/Paxil 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Therapy may take up to 2 weeks to see improvement.
2.) Avoid alcohol
3.) Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts or actions so it is important for you to pay close attention to any changes in your mood or thoughts.
Semaglutide
Ozempic
Semaglutide/Ozempic 3 ADR:
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Semaglutide/Ozempic 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Doses should be injected in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm
2.) May be administered any time of the day, with or without meals
3.) Stay well-hydrated while on this medication
Empagliflozin
Jardiance
Empagliflozin/Jardiance 3 ADRs:
UTI’s, yeast infections, and increased urination.
Empagliflozin/Jardiance 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Closely follow prescribed dietary and exercise instructions
2.) A1c testing should be done quarterly
3.) This medication falsely elevates urine glucose tests so it is it advised not to take any while on this medication
Lidocaine
Lidoderm
Lidocaine/Lidoderm 3 ADRs:
The most common side effects have to do from the patch application such as redness, burning, or itching. These effects will usually resolved within a few min to hours.
Lidocaine/Lidoderm 3 Counseling Points:
1.) If you do experience any skin irritation or burning, you should remove the patch and not re-apply until the irritation subsides.
2.) Wash hands after handling the patches and ensure not to touch your eyes.
3.) Within a 24 hour period, the patches should be left on for no more than 12 hours.
Topiramate
Topamax
Topiramate/Topamax 3 ADRs:
The most common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and memory difficulties. Weight decreases may also be seen.
Topiramate/Topamax 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Keep well hydrated during therapy to decrease the risk of kidney stones
2.) Avoid alcohol
3.) If you experience blurred vision or pain around the eyes, you should contact your physician immediately
Fluoxetine HCL
Prozac
Fluoxetine/Prozac 3 ADRs:
Nausea, insomnia, loss of appetite, and decreased libido
Fluoxetine/Prozac 3 Counseling Points:
1.) Avoid taking alcohol while on this medication
2.) It may take up to 2 weeks before therapeutic effects can be seen
3.)Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts and actions, so please pay close attention to any sudden changes in mood, behavior, or thoughts.
