Long-term care facilities (LTCFs)
mainly provide assistance and care for elderly patients (residents). Also provide care for individual with disabilities/ handicap and individuals with chronic or long-term illness.
2 common types:
-residential care (for individuals who cant recover anymore) & extended care (for recovery)
Independent living Facilities & assisted living facilities
allows individual who care fro themselves to rent or purchase an apartment in the facility that provides them with needed supplies.
Medical offices
vary from offices that are privately owned by one physician to large complexes that operate as corporations and employ many physicians and health care facility. Focuses on one specialty
Concierge Medicine
also known as retainer medicine is type of personalized health care in exchange for fees.
Dental offices
vary in size from offices that are privately owned by one or more dentist. care to all age group or for certain condition
Clinic or Satellite Centers
health care facilities found in many types of health care. composed of a group of medical or dental doctors who share a facility and other personnel.
Optical centers
individual owned by an ophthalmologist or optometrist or it can be part of a large chain of stores.
Emergency Care Services
provide special care for victims of accidents or sudden illness.
Laboratories
often part of other facilities but can operate as separate health care service.....medical lab perform special diagnostic test such as blood or urine tests.
Hospice
agencies that provides care for people who are terminally ill and who usually have life experience of 6 months or less.
Mental health care
provides care for mental disorders or disease
Genetic Counselling Centers
can be independent or located in another facility such as hospital, clinic or physicians office.
Rehabilitation facilities
located in hospitals, clinics or private, provide help to patients who have physical or mental disabilities to obtain the max self-care & function.
Health maintenance organization (HMOs)
both a health care delivery systems & a type of health insurance. provide total health care services that are primarily directed toward preventative health care for a fee that is usually fixed and prepaid.
Industrial health care centers
occupational health clinics, found in large companies or industries. provide health care for employees of the industry or business
School health services
found in schools and colleges. These services provide emergency care for victims of accidents. some provide counseling
Pharmaceutical Services
pharmacies, chemist or drug stores or link health science with chemical science. provide expertise on drug therapy, prescribe drugs and also offer over-the-counter drugs.
WHO
world health organization, international agency sponsored by the united states, addresses serious health problems throughout the world.
USDHHS
U.S Department of Health and Human Services. deals with health problems in the U.S. it's goal is to protect the health of Americans.
NIH
National Institute of Health. involved in researching disease and conducting scientific studies
CDC
Centers for Disease Control / Prevention. concerned with the spread and control of disease in populations
FDA
Food and Drug Administrations. federal agency responsible for regulating food and drug products sold to the public, it also regulates thing like medical devices, cosmetics and cell phone.
AHRQ
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. established to improve the quality, safe, efficiency and effectiveness of health care for Americans.
OSHA
Occupational Safety and Health Administration. establishes and enforce standers that protect workers form job-related injuries and illness issues.
ONC
Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. leads national efforts to build a private and secure nationwide health information exchange
Health departments
provide health services as directed by the U.S Department of Health and Human (USDHHS). provides specific services for state or local services like immunity
voluntary/nonprofit agencies

Joint Commission
nonprofit U.S based organizations that was created to ensure that patients receive the safest, highest quality care in any health care setting. Employ many health care workers and take volunteers.
Organizational structure
encompasses a line of authority or chain of command.
Health insurance plans
cost to pay for health care.
deductible: must be paid by the patient before the policy begins to pay
co-insurance: percentages shared by the patient and insurance company
co-payment:specific amount of money a patient pays for a particular services.
PPO (Preferred provider organizations)
another type of managed care health insurance plan usually provided by large industries or companies to their employees.
Medigap policy
health insurance plan that helps pay medical expenses not covered by medicare. provided by private companies and require companies to pay premium.

health insurance plan for workers injured on the job.
TRICARE
health care insurance plan for all military personnel. Provides care for all active duty members & their families, survivors of military personnel.
Managed care
an approach that has developed in response to rising health care cost. Make sure every insurance plan has a purpose.
Fee-for-service compensation
health payment in which doctors or providers are paid for each service they render.
Value-based compensation
or bundled payments is a health payment plan in which doctors are payed for their performance.
HIPAA
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information.
PPACA
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. or nicknamed Obamacare, is a United States federal statute enacted by the 111th United States Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.
