Natural Numbers
The set of positive counting numbers: {1,2,3,...}.
Integers
The set of whole numbers including zero and negative values: {...,−2,−1,0,1,2,...}.
Rational Numbers
Numbers that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers.
Irrational Numbers
Numbers that cannot be expressed as simple fractions, which are called surds when they are roots (e.g., π,2).
HCF
Highest Common Factor.
LCM
Lowest Common Multiple.
Standard Form
Expressing numbers in the form A×10n where n is an integer and 1≤A<10.
Union (A∪B)
The set of all elements that are in set A or in set B.
Intersection (A∩B)
The set of elements which are common to both set A and set B.
Complement (A′)
The set of all elements in the universal set that are not in set A.
Proper Subset (A⊂B)
A set A that is contained in set B, but is not equal to B.
Locus
The path of a point following certain conditions in two dimensions.

Arithmetic Sequence
A sequence of numbers where the difference between subsequent terms is constant.
Geometric Sequence
A sequence of numbers where each term after the first is found by multiplying the previous one by a fixed, non-zero number.
Inverse Function (f−1)
A function that reverses the mapping of a one-one function f.
Composite Function (gf)
A function defined by gf(x)=g(f(x)).
Vector Magnitude
The length of a vector (xy), calculated as x2+y2.
Non-singular Matrix
A 2×2 square matrix that has a determinant and an inverse.
Three-figure Bearings
Directions measured clockwise from the North expressed in three digits (000∘ to 360∘).
Frequency Density
The vertical axis label for histograms with unequal intervals, where area is proportional to frequency.
Congruence (≡)
The relationship between geometric figures that are identical in shape and size.
Upper and Lower Bounds
The specified limits of accuracy for measured data or estimated values.
Identity Matrix
A square matrix with ones on the main diagonal and zeros elsewhere.
