Upper Respiratory Tract
The anatomical region that includes the nose, sinuses, pharynx (throat), and larynx (voice box).
Pharynx
Commonly known as the throat.
Larynx
Part of the upper respiratory tract commonly known as the voice box.
Common Cold (Rhinovirus)
A viral infection of the upper airways characterized by sneezing, congestion, and sore throat, primarily caused by rhinoviruses.
Cold Onset
A gradual onset of symptoms occurring over several days.
Flu Onset
A sudden onset of symptoms appearing within a few hours.
Influenza (Flu)
A respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses (types A, B, and C).
Antiviral Medications (Flu)
Medications that can be effective for the flu if taken within the first 48 hours of symptoms.
Sinusitis
Inflammation of the sinus cavities that presents with facial pressure and nasal discharge.
Pharyngitis
Inflammation of the throat, often viral or bacterial, resulting in a sore throat and redness.
Laryngitis
Inflammation of the larynx characterized by hoarseness and voice loss.
Tonsillitis
Inflammation of the tonsils characterized by a sore throat and swollen glands; may require a tonsillectomy if chronic.
