Cell Division
A process whereby cells reproduce themselves to replace damaged, diseased, or worn-out body cells.
Reproductive Cell Division
A type of cell division that produces gametes, specifically sperm and oocytes, through meiosis.
Somatic Cell Division
A type of cell division where a cell divides into two identical cells.
Cell Cycle
The sequence of changes a cell undergoes from formation to duplication of contents and division into two cells.
Interphase
The period in the cell cycle when a cell is not dividing and is replicating its DNA.
Mitotic Phase
The period in the cell cycle when a cell is dividing, involving the division of the nucleus and cytoplasm into two cells.
Mitosis
The process during which duplicated chromosomes are segregated into two separate nuclei.
Prophase
The first stage of mitosis where chromosomes condense and become visible.
Metaphase
The second stage of mitosis where chromosomes align at the cell's equatorial plane.
Anaphase
The third stage of mitosis where sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell.
Telophase
The final stage of mitosis where the separated chromosomes reach the poles and the nuclear envelope re-forms.
