Qualitative Data
Data that describes characteristics and is opinion-based, often collected through open-ended questions.
Quantitative Data
Data that consists of numbers and statistics, such as those collected in a census to determine demographics.
US Census
A nationwide survey conducted every ten years to determine the population and demographics of an area.
Socioeconomic Status
Classifications in society based on economic factors such as income. It includes lower, middle, and upper classes.
Redlining
Housing discrimination maintained by banks where loans are refused in certain areas based on ethnic or racial composition.
Blockbusting
Housing discrimination maintained by real estate agents, encouraging white families to leave neighborhoods as minorities move in.
Disamenity Zones
Areas that are physically unsafe, often due to high poverty and crime rates.
Smart Settlements
Temporary settlements built with found materials in areas of undesirable land, often lacking infrastructure.
Urban Renewal
The process of redeveloping and restoring urban areas to improve infrastructure and attract businesses.
Gentrification
The process by which higher income developers renovate properties, often displacing lower-income residents.
