Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The control center of a computer that directs operations such as data transfer and manipulation.
Registers
Internal data storage locations in a processor, with size and number depending on the system.
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
The component of a CPU responsible for data manipulation.
Control Unit
Part of the CPU that handles instruction decoding, control line activation, and operation timing.
Bus
Transmission lines that link different components of a computer for data transfer.
Instruction Register (IR)
A register that holds the current instruction being executed.
Program Counter (PC)
A register that contains the address of the next instruction to be executed.
Memory Address Register (MAR)
A register that holds the memory address from which data will be fetched or to which data will be sent.
Memory Data Register (MDR)
A register that holds the data being transferred to or from the memory.
OP Code
The part of an instruction that specifies the operation to be performed.
Fetch Stage
The initial phase of instruction processing, where the instruction is fetched from memory.
Memory Function Complete (MFC)
A control signal indicating that a memory access operation has been completed.
Branch Instruction
An instruction that modifies the flow of execution by changing the value in the Program Counter.
Conditional Branch
A branch instruction that occurs only if a specified condition is met.
Multiple Bus Processor
A processor designed with multiple buses to improve performance by reducing operation cycles.
