Where were you living in July 2017?
Sometimes I stay at the homeless shelter on the edge of town or my band mates let me crash at theirs. I like to consider myself a nomad
How did you first meet Addison Grant?
I was watching him eat a cheeseburger and fries on a bench in Washington park. He caught me staring and gave me his fries.
How long had you known Mr. Grant before July 20, 2017?
About a year
How often did you see or spend time with him? (Where did you typically spend time together?)
We spent a lot of time together, we would always meet at Washington park
How would you describe Mr. Grant as a person based on your relationship with him?
The nicest, and enduring, person I’ve ever met. He was really trying to turn his life around.
How did he interact with others in the community?
He was always going out of his way to help others and taking the time to talk to people at the shelters.
Can you describe a time when you saw Mr. Grant help someone? (Joe)
One time, our friend, Joe, collapsed and Addie ran to get help. He called 911 because he knew that Joe might need immediate care since he is a diabetic. Addie was even so sweet as to find a program to supply Joe with insulin.
How did Mr. Grant talk about work or improving his situation, if at all? (Seeking a job)
He was applying for jobs everyday and even encouraged me to look to find a full time job
How did he encourage you or others to want to do better? (Picking up Trash)
He encouraged us to pick up trash. He would tell me that we owe it to Lakeview to keep it clean.
What kinds of symptoms or warning signs did he say he would show before an episode?
Addie told me that he had a seizure disorder. I still don’t fully understand it, but he told me that he gets butterflies and smells and tastes weird things before it happens.
How did your knowledge of his condition affect the way you watched out for him?
It honestly scares me, so I try to keep a close eye on him. I don’t want him to get hurt or worse.
Where were you on July 20, 2017?
I was on my way to toward the park because I was supposed to meet up with Addie. I was almost there when I seen Addie getting harassed by Officer Smith.
Where were you in relation to Mr. Grant when the incident began (location)?

How far away were you when you first noticed what was happening?
I was about 200 feet away when I first seen the two of them.
What drew your attention to the incident?
I saw Addie being harassed by Smith and then he tased him
Can you describe the events that you saw? (What did you see happening between Mr. Grant and Officer Smith?)
After he tased him, I ran up to Addie. the next thing I knew Smith threw him to the ground, put a knee on top of his back and started attacking. Smith hit Addie in the head, neck, and back over and over
What did you do when you saw the incident unfolding?
I ran up and started screaming at Smith
What did you say, if anything, during the incident?
Hey jerk! get out of here
How did the officer respond to your actions or words?
He just kept hitting Addie
Where was the officer positioned in relation to Mr. Grant?
At this point he was on top of Grant
How many times, approximately, did you see the officer strike Mr. Grant?
At least ten times
How was Mr. Grant reacting while this was happening?
He was shaking like crazy. I figured he was having a seizure
How would you describe his movements?
He was twitching and jerking
What did you believe was happening based on your prior knowledge?
I thought he was having a seizure

Was cooperative
Would you say Mr. Grant's interaction was consistent with his usual character?
Yes, Addie was usually cooperative
How did Grant respond to the officer saying that she would arrest him? ( she was cooperative)
He tried to justify us being in there. It was freezing out and we didn’t have anywhere to go. When the officer told him that he would arrest him for resisting arrest, Addie was compliant
How long did the officer continue using force on Mr. Grant?
About 1:30, he wouldn’t stop attacking him until he went completely still
