Cycle 3 End-of-Term English Language assessments
Assessments designed to reflect the curriculum for Reading and Viewing, as well as Writing and Representing for Grade 12, focusing on reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development.
Sentence Cloze (Vocab)
A task where students are given a word bank with distractors and must select the correct words to complete a set of sentences based on meaning, collocation, and context.
Multiple-Choice Gap Fill (Grammar)
An assessment task where students read a short text and select the correct word or phrase to complete gaps, requiring the application of grammatical knowledge like tense and form in context.
True, False, Not Given
A reading comprehension task where students determine if a statement is confirmed by the text, contradicted by it, or not addressed at all.
Read and Identify Specific Information
Questions that assess the ability to locate and recognize explicitly stated information in a simple text using basic scanning skills without interpretation or inference.
Infer the Meaning of Unknown Words
A skill assessing the ability to work out the meaning of unfamiliar words related to concrete actions or objects using contextual clues.
Make Inferences or Predictions
The ability to use information across a text to predict what may happen next or how ideas develop based on logical sequences and cause-and-effect relationships.
Narration (Text Type)
A text type that provides a sequence and description of events to tell a story, such as novels, short stories, biographies, and newspaper reports.
Exposition (Text Type)
A text type providing an explanation of how different elements interrelate to form a meaningful whole, such as scholarly essays or technical instructions.
Argumentation (Text Type)
A text type used to provide viewpoints about a topic, including letters to the editor, poster advertisements, and editorials.
Transaction (Text Type)
A text type aimed at achieving a specific purpose through everyday exchanges, such as e-mails, forms, invoices, and official documents.
Grade Level Goal (GLG)
The targeted proficiency level for a specific grade, such as B1.1 for Grade 9 General and B2.1 for Grade 12 General.
