Pennsylvania, 1863- 3 day war that pushed the Confederates back South
The March to the Sea
1864- Soldiers were led by William T. Sherman from Atlanta, GA to Savannah, GA. Plan was to burn everything, leaving nothing for the Confederates.

Advantages of the South
military leadership, better soilders + training, all unified under 1 political party, home field advantage, controlled agriculture
Disadvantages of the North
few good military leaders, split parties, people against war

lack money, men, and supplies, weak gov. leadership, poor strategies, relied on Great Britain for cotton

Writ of Habeas Corpus
A right saying that a citizen cannot be arrested without proof or reason from the gov. Lincoln suspended this rule due to northerners sympathizing with Confederates.
Martial Law
When military takes over in extreme circumstances. Lincolns made this in order to keep Maryland apart of the Union.
Surrender of the South
Lee surrenders to Grant on April 9th, 1865 due to no more men, supplies, or hope.
Lincoln’s Assassination
He died April 14th, 1865 at Ford’s Theater. Actor John Wilkes Booth shot him in the head, resulting in an entire change of direction for the Reconstruction period.
“Total War”
William T. Sherman’s final plan to win. Burn everything and leave nothing for the Confederacy.

July 2nd, 1863- Failed Confederate charge, turning point of the war
