Red Herring
Introducing an irrelevant topic to divert attention from the original issue.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', the pigs shift focus from the animals' hardships to promoting the idea of the revolution being successful.
Non Sequitur
A conclusion or statement that does not logically follow from the previous argument or statement.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', when the pigs argue that they deserve special privileges because they are the smartest animals, it is a non sequitur that ignores the equality promised by the revolution.
The Texas Sharpshooter
Cherry-picking data clusters to suit an argument or finding a pattern to fit a presumption.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', the pigs selectively mention the successes of the farm while ignoring the failures to gather support.
Genetic Fallacy
Judging something as good or bad based on where it comes from, rather than its actual merit.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', the animals trust the pigs solely because they are the leaders, disregarding their corrupt behavior.
Slippery Slope
Assuming that a small first step will inevitably lead to a chain of related (often negative) events.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', the claim that allowing the pigs to take extra food leads to tyranny and oppression of all animals.
Black-or-White (False Dilemma)
Presenting two opposing options as the only possibilities, when more options exist.
Example: In 'Animal Farm', the pigs suggest that the animals either support their decisions or risk returning to Mr. Jones’s tyranny.
