An act of converting people to Christianity.

A company jointly owned by shareholders.
Plantation
A large agriculture estate.
Galleon
A Spanish trading ship larger and heavier than a caravel.
Multinational corporation
A company operating in many countries.
Conquistadors
Soldiers and explorers who led the Spanish conquest of the Americas.
Encomienda
A system of labor the Spanish used in the Americas.
Mita
A labor system that the Spanish administrators in Peru used to draft indigenous people to work.
Peninsular
A person born on the Iberian Peninsula, typically a Spanish or Portuguese official who resided temporarily in Latin America.
Creole
A person of European descent born in Latin America and living there permanently.
Triangular Trade
A trade network connecting Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Middle Passage
The forced voyage of enslaved Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas.

A soldier in the elite guard of the Ottoman Turks.

The Ottoman sultan's chief minister who advised the sultan on secular matters and led the council meetings.

An appointed official of the Ottoman Empire who collected taxes.

A group of religious scholars who served as advisers to the Ottoman sultan.

A legacy of the Mogul Empire that reflects multiple cultures by blending Persian and Indian architectural styles.

A Dutch colony settled along the Hudson River and administered by the Dutch West India Company.
