Convenience Sample

A sampling method where members of the population that are readily available are selected.

Self Selected Sample

A sampling method that consists of volunteers from the population who choose to participate.

Systematic Sample

A sampling method that involves putting the population in order and selecting participants at regular intervals.

Random Sample

A sampling method where all members of the population have an equal chance of being chosen.

Bias

A systematic error introduced by the sampling method that affects the accuracy of the results.

Observational Study

A study method where information is gathered by observing members without affecting them.

Controlled Study

A study method that divides a sample into two groups where one group receives a treatment and the other does not, to compare results.

Surveying

A study method involving asking questions to gather information from a sample.

Population

The entire group that is being studied or sampled in research.

Sample Size

The number of subjects included in a study or experiment.
