Mission of the Church
To spread the Good News of Jesus.
Paraclete
A title for the Spirit of truth promised by Jesus to be with his followers forever, guiding and supporting them in their mission.
Edict of Milan
An authorization issued by Emperor Constantine in 313 AD that granted official tolerance to Christianity.
Edict of Thessalonica
A 380 AD decree under which Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.
St Patrick
The individual who brought the Church to Ireland between 390-460 AD.
St Augustine
The person who served as the first Archbishop of Canterbury in England in 596 AD.
Saints Cyril and Methodius
Saints who brought the Church to Slavic countries in 862 AD.
St Francis Xavier
A missionary who brought the Church to India in 1542 and Japan in 1549 AD.
Matteo Ricci and Michele Ruggieri
Jesuit priests who brought the Church to China in 1583 AD.
Alexander de Rhodes
A French Jesuit priest who, along with other clergy and laity, brought the Church to Vietnam in 1624 AD.
