• shows certain areas are linked to certain behaviours - beneficial for conditions like schizophrenia that show overactivity in certain areas

• objective data minimises bias

strength - real world application

• biological approach allowed development of antidepressants

• SSRISs drugs work by increasing serotonin levels alleviating depressive symptoms for many patients

• people able to manage in society and return to work/school etc

Limitation - deterministic

• only relies on biology and overlooks aspect of free will. Assuming people are predetermined raises questions about accountability in criminal cases

• also overlooks role of cognitive/environmental factors

• neglects the complexity of human behaviour and potential for personal agency
