What gastrointestinal illnesses does Bacillus cereus (spore former) pose?
Emetic type - toxin is produced by growing cells in the food
0.5-5 hours of incubation, and symptoms can last up to 24 hours
Diarrheal type - enterotoxins produced during vegetative growth of B. cereus in the small intestine
8-16 hours of incubation, and symptoms last for up to 24 hours
