Retrieval Paths

“roads” we use when we want to locate information in memory by moving from one to another under target material reached

Context-Dependent Learning

pattern of date when material learned in one setting are better recalled when the individual returns to that setting but are less well remembered when in other settings

context reinstatement

recreation of thoughts and feelings of the learning episode even if you are in different setting at the time of recall

Encoding Specificity

Refers to remembering both the material to be learned and context of those material

• Materials better recognized as familiar later if they appear in, or cued by, a similar context 

The Memory Network

vast web of ideas

each idea as a node connected to each other via association/links

Spreading Activation

process through which activation travels from one node to another via associative links

Semantic Priming

activation of an idea in memory causes activation to spread to other ideas related to first meaning

Processing pathway

the sequence of detectors and connections leads to recognizing or remembering a stimulus/idea
