Common noun
A general name for a person place or thing
Proper noun
The name of a specific person, place or thing. This will start with a capital letter.
Concrete noun
Something you can see, touch, hear, smell, or taste
Abstract noun
Something you cannot see or touch, like a feeling or idea
Action verb
A word that shows what someone or something is doing
Auxiliary verb

A verb that helps another verb in a sentence
Descriptive adjective
A word that describes a noun
Adverb
A word that describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb (often tells how, when, or where)
Preposition
A word that shows position, place, or time
Determiner
E.g. those

Coordinating conjunction
A word that joins two ideas or sentences
Main clause
A group of words that makes sense on its own
Simple sentence
A sentence with one main clause

The small brown dog ran away.
