Neuron
Cell within the nervous system that transmits messages to and from the brain, with various functions.
Sensory Neuron
Transmits sensory information from your body to your brain.
Motor Neuron
Transmits motor information from your brain to your body.
Interneuron
Transmits information between sensory and motor neurons.
Afferent Pathways
Nerve pathways that carry sensory information towards the central nervous system.
Efferent Pathways
Nerve pathways that carry motor information away from the central nervous system.
Spinal Reflex
An automatic response that is initiated by neurons in the spinal cord, independent of the brain.
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Part of the nervous system that consists of the brain and spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
Part of the nervous system that consists of all the nerves outside the CNS.
Somatic Nervous System
Part of the nervous system responsible for voluntary movements.
Autonomic Nervous System
Part of the nervous system responsible for involuntary bodily functions.
Neural Transmission
The process of transferring signals between neurons.
Neuroplasticity
The ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli.
