Pawęż (Transom)
A specific type of stern termination on a yacht.
Jaskółka (Shelf)
An open storage compartment located under the side deck (półpokład).
Bakista (Locker)
A closable storage compartment used to store various items on a boat.
Kokpit (Cockpit)
The area on the deck where the crew stays and operates the yacht.
Kambuz (Galley)
The workplace of the cook, or the kitchen, on a yacht.
Kingston (Marine Toilet)
The toilet facility found on a yacht.
Piesek (Cam/Jam Cleat)
A specific type of hitching cleat (knaga zaczepowa).
Kluza (Chock/Hawsehole)
A fitting that creates an opening through which the anchor line or mooring line passes.
Kipa (Fairlead)
A fitting used for leading and guiding sheets.
Kausza (Thimble)
A fitting inserted into the eye of a rope to prevent it from chafing.
Szekla (Shackle)
A device used to connect rigging components, ropes, and various hull elements together.
Boom Ends
The two ends of the boom are called the nok (outboard end) and the pięta (heel).
Mast Ends
The two ends of the mast are called the pięta (heel) and the top.
Bukszpryt (Bowsprit)
A horizontal spar located on the bow that allows for the mounting of additional stays and sails.
Stenga (Topmast)
The upper portion of the mast located above the spreaders (salingi).
Saling (Spreader)
A horizontal strut on the mast used to increase the angle between the shrouds for better mast stiffening.
Rolfok (Jib Furler)
An onboard device used for furling the jib (fok) onto the stay.
Bryty (Panels)
The strips of cloth from which a sail is sewn.
Refbanty (Reef Bands)
Reinforced strips of cloth on a sail containing grommets and reef points.
Liki (Edges/Leeches)
The edges of a sail.
Refpatent (Reefing System)
A device located in the boom that allows for the reefing of the mainsail (grot).
Genua (Genoa)
A type of headsail that is larger in size than a standard jib (fok).
Szkentla (Outhaul)
A rope located at the clew (róg szotowy) of a sail.
Baksztag (Backstay)
A rope supporting the mast that runs from the top or spreader to the side deck towards the stern.
Kontrafał płetwy sterowej (Rudder Downhaul)
A rope used specifically for lowering the rudder blade.
Lazy Jack
A main sail cover system with lines mounted on the boom.
Topenanta (Topping Lift)
A rope that supports the outboard end (nok) of the boom on a Bermuda (triangular) rig.
Szpring dziobowy (Bow Spring Line)
A mooring line running from the bow of the yacht backwards to the quay.
Wanta kolumnowa (Lower Shroud)
A rope supporting the mast in a plane perpendicular to the yacht's axis, running from the side to the mast column.
Sztag (Stay)
A rope supporting the mast in the yacht's centerline, running from the bow to the upper part of the mast.
Fał (Halyard)
A rope used for hoisting sails, spars, or various equipment.
Szot (Sheet)
A rope used for controlling and trimming the sails.
Obciągacz bomu (Boom Vang)
A device used to prevent the boom from lifting when the wind hits the sail on downwind courses.
Hals (Tack Line)
A short line used for securing the tack (róg halsowy) of a sail to the mast or stay.
Two-Stroke Engine Fuel
Gasoline mixed with oil in the specific proportions provided by the manufacturer.
Four-Stroke Carburetor Engine Fuel
Standard gasoline used without the addition of oil.
SLUP (Sloop)
A type of yacht featuring one mast and two sails.
Miecz (Centerboard/Daggerboard)
An underwater foil used to eliminate leeway (dryf) and improve directional stability.
Pilers (Compression Post)
A post used to transfer the weight of the mast from the coachroof/deck to the keelson (kilson).
Kabestan (Winch)
A mechanical device used for tensioning ropes, most frequently the sheets.
Trajsel (Trysail)
A heavy-duty sail raised in place of the mainsail during very strong winds.
Pompa zęzowa (Bilge Pump)
A device used for removing water from beneath the yacht's floor.
