Skill
A learned action or behavior intended to produce a predetermined result with maximum certainty and minimum expenditure of time and energy.
Ability
Inherited traits from parents that determine an individual’s potential to learn and acquire skills.
Basic to Complex Continuum
A classification system that ranges from simple skills requiring minimal cognitive effort to complex skills that involve decision-making and advanced strategies.
Open to Closed Continuum
A classification system where open skills are influenced by the environment, while closed skills are performed in a stable and predictable environment.
Self-paced to Externally paced Continuum
A classification system distinguishing skills where the performer controls the timing from those where the timing is influenced by external factors.
Gross Skill
Skills that involve large movements of the body and the use of large muscle groups.
Fine Skill
Skills that require precision and the use of smaller muscle groups.
Justification
The reasoning behind the classification of skills, based on the nature and demands of the skill being performed.
Rugby Tackle
A skill in rugby that is classified based on various continua, requiring decision making, timing, and environmental awareness.
Task Performance
The assessment of skills by comparing and contrasting different performances to identify specific skill traits.
