Why does Singer believe that our traditional way of thinking about morality is mistaken?
Singer believes traditional morality lets us off the hook too easily. He pushes for a more demanding, impartial, and globally minded approach to ethics. Like we should be constantly helping others.
Why Singer think that proximity does not matter?
He believes everyone in the world deserves to be helped, and with the rising media, there is no excuse for us to not help others in need even in other countries. it’s our obligation
Why does Singer think that the obligations of others do not matter
He believes each individual person needs to do their part, he’s afraid of the bystander affect, he believes everyone needs to be helping no matter if others aren’t. its your obligation to.
What is Singer’s central argument?
We are obligated to help those in need. Every single person should be helping, giving, etc. He believes luxuries in life aren’t fulfilling and serving others is. Without making our lives bad, we are obligated to help to prevent bad.
According to Singer, if you have $100 what is the limit of your obligation towards those suffering from famine in the Global South? On what grounds does Singer defend his position?
If you are not in need of the 100, like you’ll spend it on luxury, you are obligated to give that 100 to charity
