y= it (with verbs followed by à)

• Tu penses à l’examen? Oui, j’y pense 

• Elle arrive à faire ses devoirs? Oui, elle y arrive 

Y cannot refer to ANIMATE objects (e.g. people/ animals

• Tu as des livres? Oui, j’en ai cinq (I have 5 of them)

• Elle a des soeurs? Non, elle n’en a pas (She doesn’t have any of them

en= it/them (with verbs followed by de)

• Elle parle de son copain? Non, elle n’en parle pas (She’s not speaking about him

• Tu te souviens de ce film? Oui, je m’en souvien

EN can be used for ANIMATE objects (not common though)
