Test for Alcohols:
Reagent: Acidified potassium dichromate
reaction: If 1y or 2y are present it turns orange → green
Test for Aldehydes:
Reagent: Tollen’s reagent
Reaction: If aldehyde is present silver mirror precipitate forms
Reagent: Fehlings solution
Reaction: If aldehyde is blue → brick red precipitate forms
Test for Carboxylic acid:
Reagent: NaCO3
Reaction: Produces CO2 which can be bubbled into lime water. If CO2 is present colourless → cloudy
Test for Alkenes:
Reagent: Bromine water
Reaction: orange → colourless
Test for Halogenoalkanes:
Reagents: NaOH, Acidified AgNO3
Reaction: white precipitate formed
