Disaster Recovery (DR)
The process of restoring systems, data, and network operations after a major outage or disaster.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
The maximum amount of time a system, service, or business process can be down after a disaster before it must be restored.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
The maximum amount of data loss that is acceptable after a disaster or outage.
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
The average amount of time required to repair a failed system or device and restore it to normal operation.
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
The average amount of time a device or system operates before experiencing a failure.
Cold Site
A backup facility with power and space but no equipment or data, requiring significant setup before use.
Hot Site
A fully operational backup facility that can immediately take over if the primary site fails.
Warm Site
A backup facility with partial infrastructure that requires some restoration before becoming operational.
Failover
The automatic or manual switching to a backup system, device, or service when the primary one fails.
Site Resiliency
The ability of a site to withstand disruptions and maintain or quickly restore operations.
