Why did Siddhartha reject ascetic life? (2)

It was too extreme and did not lead to enlightenment; he realised the Middle Way is better

Why did Siddhartha give up his life of luxury? (2)

He saw suffering through the Four Sights; wealth and comfort do not bring lasting happiness

Why did Siddhartha leave the palace? (2)

He saw the Four Sights (old age, sickness, death, ascetic); he wanted to understand and end suffering

Three Marks of Existence

Anicca (impermanence), Dukkha (suffering), Anatta (no self)

Five Aggregates

Form (rupa), Sensation/feeling (vedana), Perception (sanna), Mental formations (sankhara), Consciousness (vinnana)

Five Precepts

Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not lie, Do not misuse sex, Do not take intoxicants

Bodhisattva

Someone capable of enlightenment who delays it to help others achieve enlightenment
