A pilot study is a small-scale trial, that takes place before the real investigation, uses the same procedure and resources as the real investigation
What is the aim of a pilot study? (3)
A pilot study is performed to check that the procedures and materials work, and the instructions to participants are clear, to make adjustments so that the full-scale investigation is valid, reliable and ethical
What would a pilot study help to identify?
Pilot studies help to identify problems and decide on modifications to improve the procedure in time for the larger-scale investigation

A trial can be used to ensure the wording of questions is not confusing or likely to be misunderstood
