Need for cognition
A cognitive process that includes thinking, attention, language, learning, memory, and perception.
Self-concept
The way an individual views him/herself.
Self-esteem
An individual’s overall sense of self-worth and confidence.
Need for adaptation
The ability to deal effectively with stress and life events through coping skills.
Healthy coping
Adaptive behaviors that help in becoming resilient and dealing with changes.
Unhealthy coping mechanisms
Negative strategies such as aggression, withdrawal, and substance abuse.
Self-confidence
A belief in one’s abilities, closely tied to healthy self-concept and self-esteem.
Autonomy
The ability to make independent decisions and have choices respected.
Need for relatedness
The need for social connections and reciprocal relationships with others.
Nurse-patient relationship
An intimate and caring relationship characterized by empathy and concern for the patient.
Need for stimulation
The intrinsic motivation to explore, achieve, and grow, which fosters human potential.
Communication
The process of giving and receiving information, essential for forming relationships.
