Metabolism
the sum of all chemical reactions in a living organism that sustain life, converting the energy and nutrients from food into the energy necessary for growth, reproduction, and maintaining the body's functions

Activation Energy
Energy it takes to make chemical reactions happen
Catabolism
the metabolic process where large, complex molecules (like carbs, fats, proteins) are broken down into smaller, simpler substances, releasing energy in the process, usually stored as ATP
Anabolism
the set of metabolic pathways that build complex molecules from simpler ones, requiring energy (usually from ATP) to do so, and is essential for growth, repair, and creating body mass, like making proteins, DNA, or storing fat
Catalyst
A substance, most often an enzyme, that speeds up a biochemical reaction within living organisms without being consumed in the process
