Frontal Rainfall
A type of rainfall common in the south of England, occurring when a warm air mass meets a cold air mass.
Relief Rainfall
A process where rain is produced when moist air is forced to rise over high land, such as the South Downs.

Managing tourism so that it can keep going without harming the environment.
Wave Cut Platform
A flat area of rock often found at the base of a sea cliff, formed by coastal erosion processes.
Groynes
Coastal management structures built to prevent long-shore drift and manage beach erosion.
Long-shore Drift
The process by which sediment is moved along a coastline by the action of waves.
Deposition
The coastal process that produces features by dropping or settling material such as sand and shingle.
OS Map Scale (1:50,000)
A map scale where 2,cm on the map is equivalent to 1,km in reality.
Altitude
A climate factor referring to the height of the land, which can affect the local weather/climate of the South Downs.
Sea Wall
A man-made coastal feature used to manage erosion and protect the land from the sea.
Latitude
A climate factor determined by the distance from the equator that affects the overall temperature of a region.
Distance from the sea
A climate factor that influences weather by determining how much the ocean moderates land temperatures.
Cuckmere Valley
An area in the South Downs where conflicts may occur between tourists, conservationists, and farmers.
Friston Forest
A specific location near Cuckmere Haven used for practicing area measurements on an OS map.
Mouth of a river
The point where a river, such as the Cuckmere, meets the sea.
