Quantum Numbers
Used to describe atomic orbitals and label the electrons residing in them.
Principal Quantum Number (n)
Designates the main energy level where the electron is probably located.
Secondary Quantum Number (l)
Defines the type or orbital/subshell.
Magnetic Quantum Number (ml)
Describes the possible orientation of an orbital in space.
Spin Quantum Number
Describes the spin/movement of electrons in the orbitals.
Valence Electron
The number of electrons in the outermost energy shell, which identifies the number of electrons in the electron configuration with the highest energy level.
