Cystitis
inflammation of the urinary bladder
dysuria
painful urination
pyuria
WBC in the urine
Pyelonephritis
inflammation of the entire kidney, there are a lot of WBC present and a high fever
Glomerulonephritis
inflammation of the glomeruli, a lot of RBC present
veneral disease
a sexually transmitted disease
toxic shock syndrome
Caused by staphlococcus areis which includes signs of high fever, nasuea, vomiting, organ failure; Can be from improper tampon. Sephlosporin works well
Leptospirosis
caused by leptospira in contaminated water or dirt with contaminated urine. Symptoms include fever, chills, muscular achiness, and kidney failure. Treat with penicillin
Gonorrhea
Caused by Neisseria gonorrhea, STD, can be asymptomatic but symptoms include pus, discharge, rash, sores, fever, high WBC. Treat with ceftriaxone
Syphilis
Caused by Treponema palinome, its and STD, treat with benzathine and penicillin G.
Stage 1: sore and swollen lymph nodes
Stage 2: fever, rash, sore throat, hair loss
Stage 3: destructive lesions throughout body (gummas)
Chancroid
Caused by Haemophilus ducreyi, transmitted sexually, symptom includes sores, swollen nodes, ulcers. Treat with erythromycin or ceftriaxone
Herpes 2
Spread sexually, produces small blisters and can cause birth defects. Treated with acyclovir and prednisone
Genital warts
caused by papilloma virus, its a benign growth of skin cells that lead to cancer. Can be removed with cryotherapy laser therapy and interferons. Vaccine available
AIDS
Caused by HIV, 10 subtypes, mutates, has surfaces spikes made of carb protein, incubation period of 6 days to 6 weeks. Flu symptoms develop then asymptomatic, then lymph nodes enlarge & opportunistic infections develop. Transmitted sexually
Trichomoniasis
Caused by Trichomonas vaginitis. Grows in vagina and in urethra in males, transmitted sexually or on over grow after pH imbalance. Symptoms include irritation, itching, pus, foul odor. treated with metronidazole
Candidiasis
Fungal infection caused by the yeast candida, causing intense itching and a thick white discharge. treat with antifungals
