Electromagnetism
The branch of physics that deals with the interactions between electric charges and magnetic fields.
Lenz's Law
An induced EMF will cause a current to flow in such a direction that its magnetic effect opposes the change that produced it.
Electromagnet
A type of magnet formed by wrapping a wire around an iron or steel core, creating a magnetic field when current flows.
Induced Voltage
Voltage generated in a conductor due to a change in magnetic field or relative motion between the conductor and a magnetic field.
Faraday's Law of Induction
States that an EMF is induced in a coil whenever the number of lines of magnetic force threading through it changes.
Eddy Currents
Loops of electric current induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field.
Inductance
The property of a circuit that opposes changes in current; measured in Henrys.
Mutual Induction
The phenomenon where a change in current in one coil induces a voltage in a second, nearby coil.
Flux Density
The measure of the quantity of magnetic field lines per unit area.
Self Induction
The process by which a changing current in a coil induces a voltage in the same coil that opposes the change.
