Executive branch
Enforces and runs(propers laws and puts laws into action, day to day government)-Priminster,cabinet, governor general.
Legislative
Makes laws-represent Canada’s regions. House of Commons, Senate.
Judicial
Judges-interprets laws. Judges, Supreme Court court. Final word on legal questions. 9 judges from four regions.
Prime Minister
Head of government- has to be elected as MP and lead party with most seats
Cabinet
Cabinet includes ministers appointed by the PM to run government departments(transportation)
Political party
-Group of people with similar ideas. -Parties put forward candidates in elections to want to form the government. -Canada has multiple parties for different values.
Parties in Canada
Liberal(in right now), Conservative, Green, Ndp, Quebec qua.
MPs
Members of parliament. Elected by voters. Each represents one riding. Party with most MPs forms the government.
Majority government
More than 50% of seats-full control
Minority
Most seats but not 50%-must negotiate with other parties
MPs two key responsibilities
1.Repents constituents(voters)- individuals in riding(based on population) who voted for them. 2.Create legislation- for peace order, good government of all Canadians.
MPs elected
Canadians only needs the most votes in their riding ( not 50%). This is called first past the post.
Popular vote MPs.
Total votes cast across all ridings, regardless of seats won.
Senate
-Appointed by PM. -Represent interests and rights of Canadas regions and minorities. -Do job in till age 75. -Bill can not become law in till Senate agrees.(Sober seconded thought)

FAA adressed:accountable spending, whistleblower protection, lobbyist st transparency. Answerable actions: overvalue and transparent.

Helps us know what is going on in Ottawa.
Bias in media
Who wrote it? Is there opinions in it? Does it appeal to emotional side of things? Does it ignore any groups.
Lobbyists
Hired by a group to influence MPs and government officials. Register, official lobbyist.
Lobbyist represent all Canadians, those who can afford them
Wealthier is better because the lobbyist will be more influential
Citizens can voice their views
Vote. Contact your MP, Senator, or Cabinet Minister directly.
